A recent study from Mass General Brigham has revealed that the combination of ambient clinical AI documentation and human medical scribes results in reduced after-hours work for providers and an expedited documentation process.
TRACKING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HUMAN SCRIBES
Engaging 181 physicians across 14 of Massachusetts General Hospital’s primary care practices, the study tracked the effectiveness of human scribes paired with AI technology over a 50 day, post-implementation period. The research team measured:
- Total minutes providers spent in EHR outside of work
- Proportion of notes not completed two-days after the visit
- Clinical financial productivity
The study combined virtual medical scribes with ambient AI, having scribes copy the note into the EHR once the AI had completed drafting it. Providers then reviewed, corrected, and approved the note.
All three monitored areas improved over the course of the study. The delay of note completion continually improved, ending at a 66% reduction rate by day 50. Time spent working outside of work decreased by 41.7% by the end of the study. Mass General Brigham also noted a “financial productivity” improvement of more than 12%.
The team plans to continue the study to gather more data about the positive impact long term.
MEDICAL SCRIBES PAIRED WITH AMBIENT AI
The research model is similar to ScribeAmerica’s own tech-enabled solution, where medical scribes either on-site or virtual, are paired with ambient AI technology to support documentation. But ScribeAmerica’s solution goes further. The tech-enabled solution empowers medical scribes to review and correct the note for accuracy first, lending their expertise and saving providers even more time.
Plus, by leveraging the expertise of clinical scribes, you can use the saved time to reassign more administrative tasks to ScribeAmerica team members, resulting in additional time saved. On-site and virtual scribes are able to tackle tasks like inbox management, referrals, prior authorization, chart prep, and more.
Our tech-enabled solution allows medical scribes to support providers and help lift additional administrative burden while simultaneously documenting encounters with an easy-to-use platform available on iOS, Android, and desktop. Teams leveraging SpekeAI see an average of 2.5 hours saved daily per user. Boasting custom note templates, support for 30+ languages, and EHR integrations, SpekeAI makes every team member better at what they do.
