The scribe training program consists of three distinct steps: Step 1 is a demanding 2-week classroom training and orientation course designed to get the scribe "up to speed" for his or her first day of initial collaboration with the emergency room physician. Step 2 is a supervisory period during which a highly experienced scribe provides training shifts and offers immediate review and feedback of the new scribes work. Step 3 is continuous, and consists of regular re-assessments that provide for indefinite and constant review of the scribe's effectiveness and allows the scribe to always keep up-to-date with a dynamic workplace environment. In all, each scribe receives a minimum of 120 hours of training and may receive much more depending on the scenario.
